August 2017 “The Sermon On The Mount”, downtown Island Pond

It was a cold night in early February when Dandi arrived home from a 3 month lease:  “When he smelled home and heard the other horses he started whinnying. It was the longest whinny I’ve ever heard… it just went on and on…. and on…”    “Honestly, when I looked in the trailer, I was surprised that he was still on his feet.”

We got him into the barn and made him as comfortable as we could, then went to bed with heavy harts facing the next days likely task: burying a beautiful horse in the prime of his life.  But he was noticeably better the following day… and the next… and the next…  and so began Dandi’s journey to recovery. He regained sensation in his legs after devastating trauma to his spinal cord, harness sores healed, he gained weight. Finally in late June the day arrived when Neal could again swing onto his back for a short ride around the corral.

This demonstration offers something for everyone: lessons for forgiveness, life skills and healing in your relationships with people and horses.

First ride (since his injury)!

You may remember the winsome personality of Neal’s stallion, Ben and their many training demonstrations around New England until his untimely death in 2014. Ben was Dandi’s sire and though he is different from Ben in many ways, Dandi inherited his dad’s love for people, work ethic and his incredible desire to please. He and Neal have a powerful connection that brings their story to life.
